With origins tracing back to the early days of the formation of the United Nations, Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are organized by school or college clubs which aim at creating a realistic atmosphere of how the United Nations work. Countries or entities are represented by students who assume a role and work relentlessly to protect the national interest and impose the policies of the countries or entities they are representing. During the conference, the delegates must always remain within the framework policy of their country or entity.
The Cyprus Model United Nations was founded in 2011 as means of providing youth in Cyprus the opportunity to take part in an internationally acclaimed conference while at the same time, introduce the rich history and beauty of the island to participants coming from abroad, all the while delivering an excellent session. Following a successful international session in 2011, the conference is resuming once again in September 2016 at the University of Nicosia through the organization of the Diplomatic Academy at the University of and the United Nations Youth & Student Association Cyprus.
A session filled with interesting yet challenging topics revolving around the 2017 theme, “Challenges of the “New Middle East” a regional and European Dimension”, CyMUN is ready to welcome delegates for yet another year, ensuring fruitful debates, exciting socials and an overall fantastic time.
